What is an Open Floor class?
It’s dancing, it’s a way of practicing being embodied (learning to listen to ourselves) it’s called a movement meditation (bringing our attention back to the body over and over again). We explore moving in a variety of ways, moving towards freedom, whatever that might mean for us, it can be quite intimate and personal, or wild and expansive, different for us at different times and each class will have its own particular flavour.
We’re practicing flexiblity of our whole selves, emotionally and soulfully as well as physically.
Open Floor is a dance mediation practice. Using core movement resources such as grounding, centering, releasing, our aim is to become more embodied, to be more comfortable in our own skin, present for anything and everything. When we live an embodied life we are fluid, flexible and free to experience all of the wild and subtle moments that go by, the ones that are heavenly as well as the ones that have us dragging our feet.
It can help to…
- Wear comfortable clothes to move in, layers can work well.
- Dance barefoot or in soft soled indoor shoes
- Bring water to drink
Cost: £15 cash or contactless on the door.
We plan to host an inclusive and diverse event. We welcome hearing directly from participants who have particular access or other needs. We offer further discounts and bursary places to marginalised people and people from underrepresented populations, please email Sarah

AN INTENSIVE 30 HOUR, 6 DAY ONLINE ADVANCED TRAINING PROGRAM
October 11-16, 2022 – EUROPE Time Zone
An invitation to give ourselves time. Time to study our bodies – how they work, where we have placed them and how that impacts how we behave, feel and sense the world in and around us.
Immerse yourself in five full days of embodiment study. Take time to notice sensations, reactions, habits and creative possibilities.
COMMON SENSE & EMOTIONAL EMBODIMENT
This immersion focuses on quality of consciousness and emotional intelligence.
Emotional embodiment refers to the process of learning to become wise, resilient and creative in relation to our own and other’s emotions. It refers to our capacity to feel emotion and to remain present and creative in all four domains of relationship (alone, with a partner, in a group, and in relation to spirit).
In this immersion you will develop insights and skills to become emotionally embodied. You will:
- Have a physical language for your emotions, and can move creatively with them
- Be able to allow feelings in, out and through the body
- Witness emotion as it passes in and through your nervous system, and able to track emotion as energy-in-motion in your own body and in others
- Be comfortable with the full range of emotional impulses and mindfully choose to nourish and express an emotion, be with it, or calm it down
- Know how to match what is present on the outside with what is occurring inside you
The cost of this Immersion is: $850
For application information and information about Scholarships and Financial Aid please see the Open Floor website
Please Note:
- The first Immersion and Practicum will be online. The faculty will be Lucie Nérot, Deborah Lewin, and Sarah Davies.
- After Immersion 1, we will do our best to offer in person Immersions and Practicums, in France and in the UK.When we start teaching in-person for Phase 2 (October 2022) we will offer an online alternative if you are unable to join us in person. This is in response to the uncertainties of the COVID situation, and the multiple borders within the EU and the UK. This will apply to Phases 3 and 4 if the COVID situation hasn’t resolved itself.
Open Floor Immersions

- Understand different teaching styles and how to use them
- How to teach people of all ages and abilities

Getting to Peter Griffiths Hall
Peter Griffiths Hall is in the centre of Forest Row with parking in the surrounding area.
Peter Griffiths Hall is round the back of the Freshfield Village Hall. It’s on the ‘Island’ between Tesco’s garage and Lloyds Chemist.
